pupdate — Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 9, 2026
The short version
We don't collect your data. pupdate has no accounts, no sign-up, and no servers of ours. Everything you log lives on your device and — only if you use iCloud — in your own iCloud account, which we cannot access. We don't run third-party analytics, we don't show ads, we don't track you, and we don't sell or share personal information. The rest of this policy explains that in detail, plus the choices you have.
This policy is provided by Nabeel Hingun, the developer of pupdate ("pupdate," "we," "us"), and covers the pupdate iOS app and the pupdate.app website.
1. What the App stores, and where
The App stores the following on your device:
- Your dog's profile — name, breed/size, birth date, training target, and an optional photo. Photos are saved as files on your device only.
- Your log entries — potty trips, meals, naps, notes, and their timestamps, plus edits you make.
- Settings and progress — notification preferences, milestones you've seen, and similar app state.
- Optional local usage counters — if you turn on "help improve pupdate" in settings (it is off by default), the App keeps simple aggregate counters on your device (for example, how many times a feature was used). These counters contain no log content, no free text, and no identifiers, and they are never transmitted anywhere. They exist only on your device and are erased with your data.
None of this is sent to us. We have no servers that receive your data, and we cannot see, read, or recover anything you log.
2. iCloud sync and household sharing (Apple, not us)
If your device is signed in to iCloud, the App syncs your dog's profile and log entries to your private iCloud database so your data stays consistent across your devices and is backed up. This is a service provided by Apple under your Apple ID:
- The data goes to Apple's iCloud, associated with your Apple account — not to us. We have no ability to access your iCloud data.
- Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and your iCloud settings. You can disable iCloud for pupdate in iOS Settings; the App then works entirely on-device.
Household sharing. You can invite household members to share your dog's log. This uses Apple's iCloud sharing: people you invite can view and add entries, and entries are attributed within the household so members can tell who logged what. You control the share — you choose who to invite and can stop sharing at any time (in the App or via iCloud settings). We never see the shared data; it moves between household members through their own iCloud accounts.
3. Voice logging stays on your device
If you use the microphone to log by voice, your speech is transcribed on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Audio is never sent to us or to any server, and recordings are not stored. If on-device transcription isn't available for your language, the App disables voice input rather than sending audio to a server — it will never silently fall back to cloud transcription.
4. Photos, camera, and notifications
- Photos/camera are used only if you choose to add a profile photo of your dog. The photo is stored on your device and is not uploaded to us.
- Notifications (like potty-trip reminders) are scheduled locally on your device based on your logs and your settings. No notification data leaves your device.
5. Exports you initiate
The App lets you export your logs (for example, a file to share with your veterinarian) and share milestone messages. Exports happen only when you initiate them, using the iOS share sheet. Once you share data with someone, that copy is under their control, not ours or the App's.
6. What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no profiles held by us.
- No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. No ads.
- No tracking across apps or websites (as defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency — the App never asks because it never tracks).
- No sale or sharing of personal information — we don't have it to sell. We have never sold or shared personal information.
The pupdate.app website is a static informational site; it does not require login and does not use tracking cookies.
7. Children
pupdate is intended for puppy owners and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — including children — because the App does not transmit personal information to us at all.
8. Your choices and rights
Because your data stays with you, you exercise your rights directly, instantly, and without asking us:
- Access / export: use the App's export feature to get a complete copy of your logs.
- Correction: edit or delete any entry in the App.
- Deletion: the App's settings include "delete all data," which erases your profile, logs, photos, local counters, and scheduled notifications from your device (and, via sync, from your iCloud). Deleting the App from your device also removes its local data.
- Permissions: you can revoke microphone, speech, photo, and notification permissions any time in iOS Settings; the App degrades gracefully.
- iCloud: you can turn off iCloud for pupdate in iOS Settings, and manage or delete iCloud data through your Apple account.
If you are in a region with specific privacy laws (for example, the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act): we do not collect, process, sell, or share your personal information, so most obligations that apply to businesses holding personal data do not arise — but the rights above (access, correction, deletion) are available to you in-app regardless of where you live. If you believe we hold any personal information about you (for example, because you emailed us), contact us and we will honor applicable access and deletion requests.
9. Security
Your data is protected by your device's security (passcode/Face ID and iOS encryption) and, for iCloud, by Apple's iCloud security. Sync and any App network connections use encrypted transport (HTTPS). No method of storage is 100% secure, but our design — keeping your data out of our hands entirely — removes the most common risk: a developer's server breach cannot expose data we never had.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version at pupdate.app/privacy with a new effective date, and material changes will be flagged in the App. If a future version of the App ever introduces a feature that sends data off-device to us or a partner (for example, an optional cloud AI feature), that feature will be strictly opt-in, clearly disclosed before you enable it, and this policy and the App Store privacy label will be updated first.
